- Easy-clean design for everyday farm hygiene.
Supporting Natural Digestion
Milk Bar™ teats are designed to encourage calves to suckle slowly in a natural feeding position, with the neck extended. This promotes saliva production and supports the normal digestive process, helping milk pass into the abomasum, where it is curdled and digested before nutrients are absorbed in the intestine.
The Importance of Saliva
Slow suckling encourages saliva production, which helps support normal digestion and contributes to the body's natural defences. Milk Bar™ feeding systems are designed to promote this natural sucking action and help reduce unwanted behaviours such as cross-sucking, which can occur when calves' feeding needs are not adequately met.
Recommended Feeding Rate
Milk Bar recommends a feeding rate of approximately 150 seconds per litre to encourage controlled milk intake.
- 1 litre: Approximately 2 minutes 30 seconds.
- 3 litres: Approximately 7 minutes 30 seconds.
Feeding too quickly may reduce the time spent suckling and contribute to unwanted sucking behaviours.
Milk Bar™ Feeding and Care Tips
- Choose the right feeder: Consider the number and age of your calves, as well as who will be feeding them.
- Correct positioning: Keep teats no higher than 60cm.
- Regular cleaning: Clean teats at least twice a week using a suitable alkaline detergent, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Monitor calf health: Watch for signs of infectious scours and seek veterinary advice if symptoms develop.
- Colostrum management: Ensure newborn calves receive sufficient, high-quality colostrum promptly. Bottle feeding can be useful for monitoring intake; follow veterinary guidance on the appropriate feeding method.
The Milk Bar™ Grey Single-Teat Feeder combines practical handling with a feeding system designed to encourage natural suckling and support healthy calf-rearing routines.
