It's that time of year again where shearing season is in full swing, and the team here at Meirion Davies are proud to be sponsoring the Cneifio Corwen Shears & Speed Shear - an annual, international shearing competition that has been bringing the world of shearing together for over 30 years. This is a significant event in the agricultural calendar, and it promises to be a weekend full of shearing and wool handling competitions. The competition will be held at the Rhug Estate from Friday morning until late on Saturday night.
Whether you are a sheep farmer, smallholder or just a fan of sheep shearing competitions, you are welcome to attend the Corwen Shears. This year, the Speed Shear is going to be bigger and better than ever with double the number of entries and bigger prizes. So, fasten your seat belts and get ready for a full weekend of shearing and fun.
If you have sheep of your own, then Corwen Shears is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest techniques and tools used in the shearing industry. You can watch the experts at work and ask them questions about their experience and farming practices. The competition also brings together farming communities from different parts of the world, providing an excellent opportunity for networking. Teams from as far as New Zealand will come together to compete against each other in both speed shearing and relay competitions, and as you can imagine, the rivalry is fierce!
The Corwen Shears is not just about the competition; it is also a celebration of the agricultural industry as a whole. You can enjoy live music, food, and drinks at the event. There's also a chance to shop at the various stalls selling agricultural equipment, clothes, and souvenirs.
The highlight of the competition is, of course, the shearing itself. The competitors will demonstrate their skill and speed while shearing the sheep. You will be amazed by how fast and efficient they are. Aside from the actual sheep shearing competition, Corwen Shears also has other competitions such as the wool handling classes which are open to all levels of competition from novice to advanced. There are also junior classes for the next generation of shearers to demonstrate their skills!
In conclusion, the Corwen Shears is an excellent opportunity to learn about the sheep industry, meet other farmers and smallholders, and have fun. The event brings together people from different parts of the world, making it a truly international competition. If you are a sheep farmer, smallholder or just a fan of sheep shearing competitions, then Corwen Shears is the place to be this weekend. With competitions running all day from Friday morning to late on Saturday night, there's something for everyone at the Rhug Estate. We hope to see you there!
